Acne is a common skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology have led to innovative solutions for managing and treating acne. Among these breakthroughs, Cutera's AviClear™ has emerged as a game-changer, providing effective and reliable results. In this blog post, we will delve into what AviClear is, how its technology works, how it differentiates itself from prescription medications commonly used to treat acne, and some common questions that readers may have about AviClear.

What is AviClear? AviClear is an advanced acne treatment developed by Cutera®, a renowned leader in the field of medical aesthetics. It utilizes the power of 1726 nm wavelength laser (safe for all skin types) to selectively target and suppress sebaceous glands, eliminating acne at the source without the need for prescription medications. AviClear provides a comprehensive solution for individuals seeking to achieve clear and healthy skin.

How does AviClear work?

Before we delve into how AviClear works, it is important to understand how breakouts happen. Acne forms when sebum, the oily substance on your skin, combines with dead skin cells and clogs your pores. Most acne treatments target other things that cause acne, but not the production of sebum, which is produced by the underlying sebaceous glands.

Sebaceous gland sebum production

AviClear employs the use of 1726 nm wavelength laser (safe for all skin types) to selectively target and suppress sebaceous glands, effectively reducing the size and activity of the sebaceous glands. By diminishing the production of excess sebum, AviClear helps unclog pores and prevents the formation of new acne lesions.

How does AviClear differ from prescription medications? AviClear stands out from prescription medications commonly used to treat acne due to several key differentiating factors:

  1. Non-Invasive: Unlike prescription medications that may have potential side effects or require a systemic approach, AviClear is a non-invasive treatment. The treatment itself does not involve the use of topical creams, oral medications, or painful extractions. However, we would also recommend a good skincare regimen to help aid in the treatment and provide the best possible results for our clients.

  2. Quick and Convenient: AviClear's treatment sessions are 30 minutes in duration. In addition to being short in duration, the treatment requires virtually zero downtime. This means patients can get on with their lives immediately after their treatment.

  3. Longer Lasting Results: AviClear's technology not only addresses existing acne but also works to prevent future breakouts. By targeting the root causes of acne, it helps to create a longer-lasting impact on the skin's health and appearance. While this treatment does not offer lifelong permanent result, many medical professionals consider it to be semi-permanent, as results can last a few years before a follow-up session is needed.

FAQs:

  1. How many treatments are needed? Three, 30-minute treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart is the recommendation for the majority of clients. For those with very severe acne, or want to treat acne in other parts of the body (e.g the back), more sessions may be required.

  2. Is the treatment painful? AviClear is equipped with exclusive AviCool™ sapphire skin cooling and smart sensors to maximize patient comfort and safety and maintain skin’s temperature during treatment. However, during the treatment, you may notice a slight snapping sensation (akin to a rubber band snap). So while we cannot say the treatment is entirely painless, it is not considered to be an extremely painful treatment. In clinical studies, patients tolerated the treatment well, without the need for pain mitigation or the need to stop the treatment session.

  3. What side effects can I expect, post treatment? Some clients may experience slight redness, or a mild short-term acne flareup after treatment (purging).

  4. Am I a good candidate for AviClear? Luckily, Cutera has made an easy survey to answer this question: https://aviclear.com/am-i-a-candidate/

  5. How long does it take to see results? A complete round of AviClear treatments takes anywhere from 2-3 months, given the three-session protocol, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Approximately 92% of patients treated with AviClear saw at least half of their acne resolve at 12 months following treatment. Additionally, results may continue to improve with time — even several months after your treatment sessions are finished.

AviClear offers a viable alternative to prescription medications for individuals seeking to combat acne and achieve clear, radiant skin.
